Years ago, I ran into the historical building that used to hold the National Negro Opera Company. While a historic landmark, it hasn’t been repaired in a long time. I remember thinking that was bizarre- but the building is beautiful and I made a painting of it. I gave it to the Mennonites to auction off as a fundraiser.
Fast forward three years, and I was in a coffee shop discussing what cool place it was when a gentleman working to restore this building heard me mention it. We got to talking, and he gave me his email so I could send him a picture of this painting. What a great moment!
The website for the restoration is here. It seems like a cool organization. http://www.youngpreservationists.org/
